IMPORTANCE OF GROOMING AND WALKING YOUR DOG

Dog Walker Almaden Lake Park area of South San Jose.
Like people, dogs need grooming and some exercise like walking to keep fit and look good. Dog owners know that grooming is a regular and important part of dog care. Grooming keeps your dog healthy and comfortable. Regular grooming also builds the bond between a dog and its owner.

Many dogs shed their fur and mainly require brushing and bathing, with some trimming Other dogs have coats that grow much like human hair, like the Poodle, and require considerable trimming. On the positive side, these dogs shed less.

Whatever kind of dog you have, a professional groomer makes life easier for you, the dog owner, by doing a professional quality job in a facility built for grooming, not your bath tub in your house.

These two top pictures show an Irish Terrier before and after a trip to the groomer.

Reasons for Dog Grooming

The main reasons for daily grooming include:
Improved health of the skin and coat;
Decreased chance of various health problems, such as thrush, scratches, and other skin problems;
General cleanliness of the dog;
Monitoring of the dog's health by checking for cuts, heat, swelling, or lameness.

Regular Walking Keeps Your Dog Looking Good

Regular half hour or hour long walks (not just short potty break walks) keep your dog trim, fit, and healthy. Regular exercise also keeps your dog relaxed and happy. Call me, Michelle Halpern, Pro Dog Walker, and let’s get started.

Professional Grooming’s Advantages

Stripping, Nail Trimming, Other Services

Stripping is the process of pulling the dead hair or fur out of the coat of a non-shedding dog, either by using a special tool, a striping knife, or the fingers. A hard, wiry coat has a cycle where it starts growing and then sheds as it reaches maximum length.

Stripping coordinates the shedding and makes room for a new coat to grow. Stripping is the proper method grooming for most terriers, and is required for show dogs of many hard-coated breeds.

If your dog's nails are not trimmed, they will curl over, making it painful and uncomfortable for your dog to walk. Uncut nails may curl into the dog’s paw pad, leading to infection and pain. If a dog's nails are not trimmed regularly the quick (the blood vessel in the nail) will grow out with the nail, making it nearly impossible to cut properly.
