The Purpose of Dog Training
There are many methods of dog training and objectives, from basic obedience training to training for law enforcement or the military, search and rescue, hunting, working with livestock, guide dogs and other assistance to people with disabilities, and protecting people or property.
As pack animals, wild dogs have natural instincts that favor cooperation with their fellow dogs. Many domestic dogs, either through instinct or breeding, can correctly interpret and respond to signals given by a human handler.
Call me, Michelle Hapern, Pro Dog Walker and get your dog started on walking calmly and attentively!

Basic Dog Obedience Training
Your goal is to communicate with your dog in a humane way that the dog understands - to reward desired behavior while ignoring or correcting undesired behavior.
Basic pet obedience training usually consists of six behaviors:
▪ Sit
▪ Down
▪ Stay
▪ Recall ("come", "here" or "in")
▪ Close (or loose-leash walking)
▪ Heel
A puppy requires discipline, consistency, and the patience of its owner. The puppy training phase is integral in raising a healthy and happy dog and keeping a safe and fun home environment.

Communicating with Your Dog
Fundamentally, dog training is about communication. From the human perspective, the handler is communicating to the dog what behaviors are correct, desired, or preferred in what circumstances and what behaviors are undesirable.
A handler must understand communication from the dog. The dog can signal that he is unsure, confused, nervous, happy, excited, and so on. The emotional state of the dog is an important consideration in directing the training, as a dog that is stressed or distracted will not learn efficiently.

FIVE STARS FROM BARBARA, 3/18/2019
Michelle is the best! We hired her after I had had some surgery and couldn't walk our leash yanking, squirrel chasing, powerful rescue dog for a few months.
Within 15 minutes of our first meeting, she had Cerbie walking with a loose leash, which amazed both myself and my husband. And after walking Cerbie for a couple of months now, he is very well behaved on his leash, and is usually able to contain himself when they come across squirrels.
His sister, Lizzie, is a rescue dog with a past history of abuse, and is terrified of strangers, but within a week, Michelle had won her over too, and now both fur kids can't wait for Michelle to come over! Michelle is always very calm, and has a gentle, but in control, hand with the dogs.
She is great at reading their energy and intuitively understands what their particular needs are. Soon I'll be taking over the Cerbie walking again, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Michelle can do for Lizzie!
